How to Color a Yorkshire Terrier

Here's something that might surprise you - Yorkshire Terrier puppies are born almost completely black with small patches of tan. As they grow up, the black slowly changes into a dark steel-blue color. So if your coloring page shows a puppy, go heavier on the black. If it shows a grown-up Yorkie, that steel-blue is the color you're after.

Steel-blue isn't really blue like the sky. It's more like a very dark gray with just a hint of blue in it - similar to the color of a brand-new pair of dark jeans. Try layering gray first, then lightly going over it with a blue pencil. The tan parts - the face, chest, and legs - should be a warm golden-brown, a bit like caramel.

Yorkshire Terriers are one of the smallest dog breeds in the world, but their hair can grow longer than their whole body. Some Yorkies have hair that reaches the floor.
The hair is long, straight, and silky, and it parts down the middle of the back. Use long, smooth strokes running downward on both sides of that center part. Try to keep the two sides even so it looks like the hair is falling neatly - almost like someone just brushed it.
Did you know? Yorkies got their name from Yorkshire, a place in the north of England where the breed first became popular.
Most Yorkies you'll see on our coloring pages have a little bow or topknot holding the hair out of their eyes. That's a fun detail to color in a bright, bold color that stands out against the rest of the dog - red, pink, or purple all look great.
Even though they're tiny, Yorkshire Terriers are known for being bold and full of energy. They're one of those small dogs that acts like a big dog.
The face is small with a tiny black nose and round dark eyes. Because there's so much hair falling around the face, keep the eyes nice and dark so they don't get lost. A white dot in each eye helps them stand out from behind all that fur.Our dogs coloring pages index has many more breeds to discover. If you enjoyed this one, our Shih Tzu coloring pages have a similar long-haired look, or try something totally different with our Chihuahua coloring pages for another tiny dog with a very different coat.
